Safe Laser Skin Resurfacing

As a result of sun exposure, environmental effects, genetics, and the unavoidable maturing process, the color, texture and quality of our skin deteriorates as we age. Pigmented spots can develop on the face, chest, and hands, fine lines and wrinkles begin around the eyes and mouth, and slowly progress to the rest of the face, and the skin loses its overall luster. Among an array of solutions for improving the color and texture of our skin, laser resurfacing treatments can be extremely effective. In contrast with chemical peels and dermabrasion, laser skin resurfacing is now the most advanced skin resurfacing technique with the highest degree of precision during treatments. Laser resurfacing treatments recovery depends on the level of ablation. In our clinic we offer Aerolase EraPeel a 300 microsecond Erbium YAG ablative lasers that effectively vaporize, or ablate, the more superficial layers of the skin to achieve their results. Across the spectrum of ablative  lasers, EraPeel has revolutionized skin resurfacing in efficacy, safety and recovery period.

What is Aerolase Liighpod Era Peel Laser Skin Resurfacing?

Laser skin resurfacing is a popular procedure that can be used to treat surface blemishes on one’s face. It uses concentrated light to remove damaged skin, while concurrently heating the underlying skin. This acts to stimulate collagen growth, promoting volume and making your skin smoother and firmer. The Aerolase LightPod Era Peel is a profound rejuvenation in a single treatment with less downtime than fractional laser devices. It is a new standard for ablative rejuvenation. This laser is made in the USA and it is FDA approved.

What should I expect from my consultation?

During your consultation, you will learn about Aerolase EraPeel Laser Skin Resurfacing and discuss your needs and concerns. Dr. Nabil Fakih will carefully examine your entire face and he will determine what type of laser you need. For most laser treatments, Dr. Nabil Fakih recommends that your skin is optimally prepared prior to your treatment; preparation before laser is integral to the safest, most effective treatment. For non-ablative laser skin resurfacing all skin types can be treated. Sun tanning before laser resurfacing should be avoided and broad-spectrum sun protection should be used when possible. In Refresh EraPeel preparation time before laser skin resurfacing is minimal or non. With Renew or Reveal EraPeel, the pigment within your skin should be more effectively minimized before laser treatments. Avoiding a tan and sun protection including a UVA, UVA, HEV, & IR with an SPF of 50 is strongly recommended prior to the laser resurfacing procedure. Prior to facial ablative laser resurfacing, a skin care regimen that includes sun protection and that may also consist of a lightening cream will often be recommended to give you the most balanced, natural, beautiful results. After your consultation we will take photographs for your medical record and we will discuss the treatment fees depends on the level of depth and scheduling dates. You should come to the consultation prepared to discuss your medical history. Also provide information about any medical conditions, drug allergies, medical treatments you have received, previous surgeries and medications that you currently take. It is important for you to provide complete information.

Aerolase LightPod Era Peel

The Era represents a new revolution in skin rejuvenation as a high-precision 2940nm laser that delivers high-fluence in a collimated beam, utilizing a gentle 300-microsecond pulse duration. The Era uniquely allows for independent depth of ablation of shallow or deep indications (plus, a non-ablative mode) within a treatment site, as well as precision targeting of difficult contours of the nose and periocular areas. These controlled pulses allow for full ablation of the epidermis without damaging the dermis, which eliminates pinpoint bleeding, oozing, and excessive amounts of downtime while still achieving the stunning results historically only seen with C02 lasers. The Era operates without any per-treatment costs or consumables tokeep your practice highlyprofitable.

• Complete Artistic Control– Era allows you to address each patient’s individual anti-aging concerns by enabling tailored treatment for both deep and superficial indications without demarcation lines.

• Precise Depth of Ablation–unique control over complete epidermal renewal eliminates collateral thermal damage, damaging the dermis and ensures achieving desired, reproducible results for each patient.

• Maximum Results, Minimal Downtime–a single treatment session allows for comparable results to a series of treatments with fractional devices, but with less downtime. A single more aggressive treatment offers similar results to C02 without adverse effects or prolonged patient downtime.

• Minimal Adverse Effects– unmatched results withno hyper- or hypopigmentation, no bleeding, no oozing, no scarring and no excessive downtimeimmensely boosts patient satisfaction

The Era’s gentle 300-microsecond pulse is delivered in a unique collimated beam, which combines to allow for a number of advantages including:

• Independent depth of ablation within a treatment site

• Less downtime and fewer treatments than fractional lasers

• Less downtime and risk of adverse effects, yet comparable results to C02

• Partial face treatments without demarcation lines

• Precision targeting of difficult contours (nasal, periocular, perioral, scars, etc.)

• No touching of the skin, which allows exceptional visual control, hygiene and treatment comfort

• A new sub-ablative mode opens epidermal renewal to darker skin types

With the Era, practitioners now have a single laser modality in a single handpiece that can effectively treat a range of cosmetic concerns from the most deeply wrinkled, photodamaged skin to the most superficial irregularities within a single treatment. Era’s 300-microsecond laser technology enables precision within a gentle pulse. The 300-microsecond pulse duration delivers high energy within a short pulse duration, which allows the skin to cool in between pulses to prevent thermal overheating and collateral damage. Precise control, depth of ablation and the ability for the skin to cool itself between pulses eliminates demarcation lines and allows predictable, reproducible outcomes. Published clinical data has shown that in comparison to other ablative technologies, the Era offers shorter downtime, a higher therapeutic window, and a lesser risk of complications such as pigmentary changes or scarring. In addition, partial area ablation of singular functional aesthetic units is enabled due to the absence of post-treatment demarcation lines caused from thermal damage. This advances the traditional ablative lasers that need to treat entire areas to cover-up demarcations lines caused by excess thermal damage. The Era now allows for customized treatment solutions with minimized downtime

We have 3 Intensities Levels with 10 total levels. The intensity levels:

Refresh: non ablative superficial to very superficial ablative treatment. (Level 1 EraGlow, Level 2, Level 3)

Renew : ablative superficial to ablative half midway. (Level 4, Level 5, Level 6)

Reveal: ablative half midway to deep. (Level 7, Level 8, Level 9, Level 10)

What does the procedure involve?

Prior to the procedure we explain the process to you and clearly define your expectations of the treatment.

• Limited to no sun exposure from 2 weeks before to 6 weeks after (depends on the level)

• Topical anaesthetic is required before the procedure (some levels require sedation)

• No gels require to put on your face, since the treatment is at a distance-lens and not a contact lens.

• Treatment session usually last around 45-60 minutes.

• Most patients can return to work immediately (Refresh), 5-7 days (Renew), 14 days (Reveal).

• Throughout the treatment session the patient must wear protective eyewear.

• Aerolase Era up tp level 4 treatment is relatively painless compared to other facial resurfacing techniques. Some discomfort can be possible with selected level up to level 5.

Recovery

Following Refresh laser treatments, depending on the intensity of your treatment, you can expect redness and swelling for approximately 1-3 days, and most are comfortable returning to work after 1-3 days. With Renew laser resurfacing treatments, flaking or peeling may be present for 5-7 days. After Reveal laser resurfacing treatments, most often recovery is 8-12 days. After non-ablative laser skin resurfacing treatments, light aerobic activity (elliptical, walking, bicycle) may be resumed as early as two days following, and more strenuous activity at five days. After ablative laser skin resurfacing treatments, light aerobic activity may be resumed after 4-5 days and more strenuous activity at 12-14 days.

Considerations

• No Pain at all during treatment up to level 4 (after level 5 to 10 one can feel pain and may require anesthesia cream/sedation)

• Skin turning pink and a little sore immediately after the procedure.

• Sensation of a mild sunburn (redness, peeling, swelling) that may last a few days after treatment.

• Rarely, skin pigment may absorb too much light energy and blistering can occur.

• Bruising affects up to 10% of patients.
